Any iPhone from the XS/XR (2018) onward supports eSIM. Installation takes about two minutes; here are all three methods.
Method 1 — Scan the QR code (most common)
- Connect to Wi-Fi.
- Open Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM (on some iOS versions: Add Cellular Plan).
- Choose Use QR Code and point the camera at the code from your email.
- Tap Continue and wait for “Cellular Plan Added”.
Method 2 — One-tap install (iOS 17.4+)
If your provider sends a direct activation link (Turnaa emails include one), tapping it on the iPhone installs the profile without scanning anything — handy when the QR is on the same phone.
Method 3 — Enter details manually
In Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Enter Details Manually, paste the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your email. Use this when the camera cannot scan (cracked lens, printed QR).
The settings that matter after installing
- Label the line (e.g. “Travel”) so it is easy to find.
- Cellular Data → select the eSIM when you land.
- Data Roaming → ON for the eSIM line — travel eSIMs need this; it does not cause extra charges on a prepaid plan.
- Keep your primary line on for calls/SMS, with its own data roaming off.
Troubleshooting quick hits
- “Plan cannot be added” → you may have scanned it before; profiles install once.
- No service after landing → toggle Airplane Mode, confirm the eSIM is selected for data, and check roaming is on.
